Customer portal
Customers manage their own subscriptions from a Manage subscriptions page inside their regular Shopify customer account — no separate login, no third-party account system.
What customers can do
- View every subscription with status, items, frequency, and next charge date.
- Skip the next order.
- Pause and resume.
- Cancel (subject to the cancellation save flow, if you’ve turned it on).
- Edit delivery address.
- Update their payment card — the portal shows the saved card (brand, last four digits and expiry, with a warning when it expires within 30 days) and sends Shopify’s own secure card-update email. Curobi never sees the card details.
- Change quantity or reschedule the next billing date (Starter and above). On a fixed-calendar plan, a new date moves forward to the next charge date — see Rescheduling on a fixed calendar.
- Replace products (Starter and above) — how this works depends on the kind of subscription; see Replacing products.
As the merchant, you choose which of these actions are actually available to customers — see Settings → Portal actions in the Curobi admin. Any action you turn off simply doesn’t appear in the portal; nothing breaks on the customer’s side. Your plan sets the ceiling on top of those toggles — see Plan requirements.

Frequency changes aren’t available as a self-service action today — Shopify’s customer-facing subscription API doesn’t expose them yet. A frequency change currently means you edit the subscription yourself.
Plan requirements
| Portal feature | Plan |
|---|---|
| View, skip, pause and resume, cancel, edit address, update card | Every plan |
| Cancellation reason survey | Every plan |
| Change quantity, replace products, reschedule the next billing date | Starter and above |
| Cancellation save offers (pause or skip instead of cancelling) | Starter and above |
On Free, the Starter actions are hidden from the portal even if they’re switched on in Portal actions, and the save offers are switched off — the reason survey still runs. The Free plan’s one-time 14-day trial unlocks them for its duration; when the trial ends they switch off again. See Pricing & Plans.
Rescheduling on a fixed calendar
A subscription on a fixed-calendar plan only bills on that plan’s charge dates, so it can’t be moved to any day the customer likes. When a customer picks a new date, Curobi moves it forward to the first charge date on or after the day they picked. On a plan that charges on the 15th, a customer who picks 3 November is moved to 15 November.
- The confirmation quotes the date that was actually set, not the one the customer picked, so they never walk away expecting an order on a day it won’t come.
- The date picker doesn’t know your charge dates. It can offer days that will be moved forward when the customer confirms.
- The moved date must still be inside your reschedule window — how far ahead customers may move an order, set in Settings. If it lands outside, the reschedule is refused with a message that the plan bills on fixed dates. Curobi doesn’t pull the date back to the edge of the window instead: there is no charge date between the day they picked and the end of the window, so there’s no valid date to fall back to.
Rolling plans are unaffected — the customer’s chosen date is the date that’s set.
Replacing products
There isn’t one “swap” button that works the same way for every subscription. What a customer can replace — and how — depends on what they subscribe to:
| Subscription type | What the customer sees | How replacement works |
|---|---|---|
| Regular product subscription | Edit items → Replace item | Replaces the product directly. The subscription must be active and Swap product must be on in Portal actions; only products available as a compatible replacement are offered. |
| Mix & Match | Replace items on the bundle card, then Replace item per line | Choices are limited to the bundle’s current catalog, and the replacement applies immediately. Same active-subscription and Swap product requirements. |
| Build-a-Box | Build your box (nothing picked yet) or View & replace items | No per-item swap. The customer edits the whole box in the box configurator, and the full selection is checked against your menu, the minimum and maximum item counts, the per-item quantity cap and the selection cutoff. |
| Curated box | A preview of the box contents only | No replacement. You choose the contents, and Curobi applies them to every subscriber. |
Why Build-a-Box doesn’t get a swap button. Mix & Match picks are real, priced lines on the subscription, so swapping one for another item from the same catalog always leaves a valid bundle. A Build-a-Box is a selection for the billing period that has to satisfy the menu, the item-count bounds and the quantity caps as a whole. Swapping a single line on its own could produce a box that’s off-menu or out of bounds, so the configurator validates the whole box together instead. If a customer can’t see a Build-a-Box replacement option, see Build-a-Box → Troubleshooting.
Cancellation save flow
If enabled, clicking Cancel doesn’t immediately cancel — it opens a short flow instead:
- “Before you go” — retention offers (pause instead, or skip just the next order), shown only when they’re actually applicable to that subscription’s current state.
- An optional reason survey — a short dropdown of cancellation reasons you define.
- Final confirm — the actual cancellation.
Every step has a “never mind” escape hatch. If you’ve turned off every offer and the survey, the flow collapses to a single confirm — never worse than not having the flow at all.
Reasons customers pick feed straight into Churn Insights, and offers shown/accepted feed the save-rate metrics on that same page.
Configure this in Settings → Cancellation save flow:
- Offer to pause instead of cancelling (on by default) (Starter and above)
- Offer to skip the next order instead (on by default) (Starter and above)
- Ask cancellation reason (off by default, every plan) — reveals an editable list of reasons
On Free, the two offers are switched off whatever these settings say, so the flow is the reason survey (if you’ve turned it on) followed by the final confirm.
The two offer toggles are linked to Portal actions: if Pause is disabled there, the “offer to pause” toggle here is automatically disabled too, so you can’t accidentally offer an action that isn’t actually available.
Where subscribers access it
Customers find Manage subscriptions from their Shopify customer account menu. If it’s missing after install, confirm the page is both (a) enabled under Settings → Customer accounts → Customize → Apps and (b) linked from the customer account main menu — both steps are required for the page to load correctly.
